ACTUALLY. JUST HAD THIS DISCUSSION WITH MY WRITER’S GUILD.

In creative writing, words like “said” or “asked” become almost invisible to the readers’ eyes and are really just there to help them keep track of who’s saying what. You should use words like “yelled”, “snapped”, or “begged” sparingly and to add emphasis, else they take attention away from the words actually being said and everything becomes a caricature.

This is a beautiful list of words, however, and I’m all for increasing one’s vocabulary.
